The world's driest desert, Chile's San Pedro De Atacama, was the stimulus of designer Iris's light sequence by the same name. Infringing on assumed rules of nature, strange cacti and other desert plant life continue to grow in the extreme solitary but remarkably beautiful landscape of the San Pedro De Atacama.
Available in four fixtures – table lamp, wall lamp, floor lamp and ceiling lamp – the San Pedro De Atacama looks geometrically impossible. The light is three-dimensional; the fixtures are two-dimensional. Iris meshes the concepts of observation and understanding. |

When one looks at the design from the side, one sees a three-dimensional object (bulb) floating in a two-dimensional object. This seems almost impossible – just like the continued growth of the cacti in San Pedro De Atacama desert. Iris's design is clean and elegant. Change the bulb to a coloured one and the effect is engrossing. Its slimness also creates a bit of movement – a mere touch of the stand will instigate these "light cacti" to slightly reposition. There is nothing quite like the San Pedro De Atacama – both the desert, and the lighting fixtures. |
